A simple guide to the phone and wearable device settings AiCarer needs, why each one matters, and what happens if you turn one off.

Checklist for the person being cared for

Setting up the App on the device of the person being cared for takes a bit more time then any Carer, but only needs to be done once. The below checklist will support you, and the Get Started section helps you navigate this with images for Android or iOS.

  • Notifications are turned on for AiCarer

So you see check-in reminders, alerts and carer invitations.

  • Location is allowed

So AiCarer can provide location information when it is needed for wellbeing features and alerts.

  • The app is allowed to run in the background

So AiCarer keeps working when your screen is off.

  • Background activity is allowed for AiCarer

So your phone does not quietly shut the app down.

  • The phone has internet (Wi-Fi or mobile data)

    So updates reach your carers.

  • If you have a supported wearable device: it is charged, worn and paired

So your daily wellbeing readings keep coming through.

What each setting does

SettingWhy it mattersIf you turn it off
NotificationsAiCarer taps you on the shoulder for check-ins, alerts and invitations. You will miss reminders and may not know a carer has asked how you are.
LocationLets a carer or emergency service know where you are if something is wrong.Alerts still work, but nobody can see where to come and help.
Background activityLets AiCarer keep listening for your wearable device while your phone is in your pocket. The app only works while it is open on the screen.
Battery optimisationStops your phone from putting AiCarer to sleep to save power.Check-ins and alerts can arrive late, or not at all.
Internet connectionSends your updates to the people who care for you.Information is held on the phone until you reconnect.
Bluetooth (with a wearable device)Keeps your wearable device talking to your phone.Your device readings stop, and your dashboard becomes out of date.

The Three Settings That Matter Most

Notifications

Keep notifications on so you never miss a check-in reminder, a wellbeing alert, or an invitation from a family member.

Phone Settings → AiCarer → Notifications → Allow.

Location

Allow location so that if an alert is raised, your carer knows where you are. AiCarer does not continuously track your location. It only uses location information when it is needed to support wellbeing features and alerts.

Choose “Always” if you would like alerts to work when the app is closed.

Battery and background

Allow AiCarer to keep running in the background so it can continue providing reminders, updates, and alerts.

Phone Settings → Battery → AiCarer → Unrestricted.

If you wear a supported wearable device

  • Wear it every day, including overnight if you can, so your sleep is included.
  • Charge it at a regular time, such as while you shower or watch television.
  • Keep Bluetooth turned on so your wearable device stays connected to your phone.
  • Keep your phone nearby during the day.
